STEPPED HOUSE
Leuven, 2015 - 2020

In an existing row house in the outskirts of Leuven, the living areas on the ground floor are completely seperated from the garden a series of dilapidated annexes. These are replaced by a simple additional volume, which will function as a bright and spacious living room, in continuity with the existing ground floor spaces. The considerable level difference between street en garden is bridged by organising the different 'rooms' of the ground floor as a series of stepped platforms, ending in a podium which doubles as a low cupboard. The result is a continuous open living space in which the floor levels define different areas: an enfilade of steps.
